How to Use an LED Face Mask: The Step-by-Step Routine
The four steps before, during, and after.
January 14, 2025 · The Radia Atelier
The order in which you cleanse, treat, and moisturise around your LED session changes how much light actually reaches your dermis.
Step 1: Cleanse thoroughly
Even invisible sunscreen residue reflects red light. Double-cleanse if you wore SPF that day.
Step 2: Dry skin, no actives
Apply nothing before the mask. Serums, oils, and especially photosensitisers (retinol, vitamin C, AHAs) reduce transmission or risk irritation under heat.
Step 3: 10 minutes, hands free
Eyes closed, mask in contact with skin across the whole face. No phone screen — that breaks the contact.
Step 4: Apply serums and moisturiser
Post-LED skin is primed to absorb. Layer hydrating serums, peptides, then occlusive moisturiser to seal in.
