The eight criteria
- FDA Class II clearance — not "registered," cleared.
- Disclosed wavelengths in nanometres — 633 nm red and 830 nm near-infrared at minimum.
- Disclosed irradiance — milliwatts per square centimetre, ideally measured at skin distance.
- Flexible form factor that maintains skin contact.
- Hands-free operation — strap or contour fit.
- Built-in eye protection.
- Rechargeable battery, not a wired controller.
- Warranty of at least 18 months.
Claims to ignore
- "Salon-quality" — not a regulated term.
- "7 colours of light" — most extras are cosmetic, not therapeutic.
- "Boosted by NASA technology" — marketing, not a spec.
- "Used by celebrities" — celebrities use everything that ships them a free unit.
