The 30-Day LED Protocol: A Week-by-Week Plan for Your First Month
Thirty days is not enough for collagen. It is enough to build the habit that gets you there.
March 11, 2025 · The Radia Atelier
Most LED masks fail in month one — not because the light does nothing, but because nothing visible happens in the first fortnight and the device quietly migrates to a drawer. This is the plan we would give a friend: what to do each week, what to expect, and the honest statement that the real results arrive after this month, not during it.
What thirty days can and cannot deliver
Newly synthesised collagen takes eight to twelve weeks to mature into a visible change in fine lines. Nothing you do in month one shortcuts that. What month one delivers is improved hydration and tone, calmer background redness, faster resolution of individual blemishes — and, far more importantly, an established habit. Judge this month on adherence, not on your reflection.
Before day one
- Take baseline photographs: front, both three-quarter angles, in daylight, no makeup, no filter. Same window, same time of day.
- Simplify your routine to cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen for the first week so you can attribute any change correctly.
- Choose your session slot and put the device in that room.
- Patch test if your skin is reactive: five minutes on one side of the jaw, compare after 48 hours.
- Set a recurring reminder for your chosen days. Do not rely on intention.
Week one — establish
Three sessions of ten minutes on clean, dry, bare skin, eyes closed. Follow each with a plain moisturiser and nothing else. Hold all retinoids and acids this week — not because they conflict with light, but because you want one variable.
What you may notice: mild warmth during the session, a transient flush that fades within twenty minutes, and skin that looks slightly better hydrated the next morning. What you will not notice: any change in a line. That is correct and expected.
Week two — the quiet week
Three to four sessions. Reintroduce a hydrating or peptide serum immediately after each session while absorption is elevated. Keep exfoliating acids on non-session nights.
This is the week people quit. Two weeks in, the novelty has gone and the mirror looks the same. Nothing has failed. Fibroblasts have been signalled and are producing collagen that is not yet visible. Your only job this week is to complete the sessions.
Week three — integrate
Four sessions. Reintroduce your retinoid, applied after a session or on separate nights, whichever your skin tolerates. If you are treating acne with a blue mode, keep those sessions within the stated length. Begin extending to the neck if you have coverage for it.
What you may notice: texture feels smoother under your fingertips, makeup sits better, blemishes resolve faster than they used to.
Week four — assess and lock in
Four to five sessions. Retake your photographs in the same light, same angles, same time of day. Compare against baseline rather than against memory, which is unreliable and unkind.
| At day 30, reasonable | At day 30, not reasonable |
|---|---|
| Better tone and clarity | Visibly shallower deep lines |
| Calmer background redness | Resolved rosacea |
| Smoother texture | Lifted jawline or jowls |
| Blemishes settling faster | Cleared hormonal acne |
| Less post-blemish discolouration | Faded hereditary pigmentation |
| A habit you no longer negotiate with | A finished result |
The two checkpoints that predict success
First: did you complete at least twelve sessions in thirty days? Below that, you have not yet tested the device — you have tested your schedule. Second: is the mask stored where you use it? People who keep the device in the bathroom or beside the bed are dramatically more likely to reach week twelve than people who put it back in the box.
Days 31 to 90
- Hold at three to five sessions weekly. Do not increase length — the dose response plateaus.
- Photograph again at week eight and week twelve. Weeks eight to twelve is where fine line change appears.
- Add the neck and chest if you have not. It is the highest-return extension.
- Keep daily sunscreen non-negotiable, or you are refilling a leaking bucket.
- If nothing at all has changed by week twelve on consistent use, revisit the device’s disclosed irradiance rather than your technique.

- What results should I expect after 30 days of LED therapy?
- Expect better hydration and tone, calmer redness, smoother texture and faster-resolving blemishes. Do not expect fine line change, which requires eight to twelve weeks for new collagen to mature.
- How many LED sessions should I do in the first month?
- Aim for twelve to sixteen ten-minute sessions across thirty days — three a week to start, building to four or five by week four.
- Why do I see nothing after two weeks?
- That is the normal pattern. Week-one and week-two changes are hydration and blood flow rather than structural, and collagen remodelling is not visible until roughly week eight.
- Should I use retinoids during my first month of LED?
- Hold them in week one so you can attribute any reaction correctly, then reintroduce from week three, applied after a session or on separate nights. Keep exfoliating acids on non-session nights throughout.
- How do I track LED results properly?
- Photograph at baseline, day 30, week eight and week twelve — same window, same time of day, same angles, no makeup. Comparing against memory rather than photographs is the most common reason people wrongly conclude nothing happened.
